Special Olympics is about creating opportunities for the intellectually disabled to succeed through year-round sports training and competitions. Athletes develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy, friendship and community. Special Olympics is changing lives and changing people's perceptions about intellectual disabilities. Through the Special Olympics movement, people around the world with intellectual disabilities are being embraced in society as opposed to being cast aside. To continue to change lives Special Olympics needs your support!!
ABOUT OUR POKER RUN
Special Olympics of Macomb County is pursing a new fund-raising event to help support special athletes in our local County. A Charity Poker Run is scheduled for June 24, 2012 at Gibraltar Trade Center. Gibraltar Trade Center will serve as the home-base for the event. From GTC you will ride off on a scenic route through St. Clair and Macomb Counties, which will lead you to four scheduled stops.
Your support would help 1,400 athletes participate in local and state events throughout the year.
100% of your donation will be use to benefit our local athletes!

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Athletes are given continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness and athletic skill, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Four Macomb athletes compete at State Summer Games swimming the freestyle on a relay team. Many Athletes practice at local YMCA with their coaches. Swimming is a beneficial sport that all athletes can do regardless of disability.
